Responsibilities:
Weyerhaeuser changed our
company focus from new product
development to marketing and production of core products. My previous
experience with Dynetherm made me the logical candidate for Production Manager.
As
Production Manager I:
-
Managed the purchasing and inventory maintenance of
all raw materials
-
Scheduled
production runs
based on sales
-
Maintained
finished
product inventory levels
-
Hired/trained
(and fired
when necessary) all production
personnel
I was also our Network Administrator and IT manager for our software and
computer hardware.
Our network was practically glitch free so those duties didn't require much
of my time. Our plant had an average of 14 networked computers.
In order to increase production I:
-
Redesigned the operating principle of our
production line laminating machine
-
Drafted the plans for the
new parts
-
Outsourced the manufacture of the
parts
-
Redesigned the frame of the
machine to accept the new parts
-
Supervised the installation and testing
of the finished machine
These changes more than doubled line speed and
almost eliminated the continual maintenance and adjustments previously required. Shortly
thereafter Weyerhaeuser decided to build a second production line based on my
design. I supervised the construction of the new line with engineering company that was contracted to
build the line.
I
was also the company Safety Officer and was sent to training seminars
including:
-
Behavior Based Safety
(Pinehill, AL)
-
Health and Safety Auditing (Atlanta,
GA)
-
Environmental Awareness
(Atlanta, GA)
-
Injury Incident Investigation (Atlanta, GA)
-
Ergonomic Safety - Job Safety Analysis (Chicago,
IL)
Reason
for leaving: Due to the
events of September 11 and the subsequent recession Weyerhaeuser was bracing for a couple of slow years. Dynetherm
had new products on the
market that take several years to become familiar and entrenched. We were on the brink of being profitable but
Weyerhaeuser looked to cut all companies
that were not historically proven moneymakers.
Dynetherm is now closed.
